"Does D-mannose contain sugar?" is really two questions wearing one coat. One is about the ingredient itself; the other is about the product in the bottle. Ingredient references and the product label answer different parts of the question - and reading them together takes a small amount of panel literacy.
1. Question one: is D-mannose itself a sugar?
Yes, chemically. NIH's Dietary Supplement Label Database categorizes mannose under "Sugar," and the ingredient is a simple sugar - a monosaccharide. That is a fact about the molecule, and it is true no matter which product you buy. But it does not by itself tell you what is in your bottle, because on a supplement label D-mannose is declared separately, as a dietary ingredient with its own amount - on our panel, 250 mg per 2-gummy serving.
2. Question two: what do the sugar lines on the panel say?
A Supplement Facts panel can carry two sugar lines: Total Sugars and, indented beneath it, "Includes X g Added Sugars." The indentation is doing precise work: the Added Sugars figure is part of the Total Sugars figure, not an amount to add on top of it. Our gummy label shows exactly this structure - Total Sugars 5 g, Includes 5 g Added Sugars. The declared amounts are rounded under the labeling rules, and the nested line is already counted in the total: the label declares 5 g Total Sugars, including 5 g Added Sugars - do not add them to make 10 g.
3. What a missing line does - and does not - mean
Under 21 CFR 101.36, these nutrients are listed when their amounts exceed the thresholds that can be declared zero. On a label following these rules, an omitted Total Sugars line means the amount falls at or below that declaration threshold - it is not proof of absolute absence, in either direction, for any format. Compare the lines printed on the actual products you are choosing between.
4. Where the sugars in a gummy come from
Our gummy lists glucose syrup and sugar among its Other Ingredients. Read that list alongside the panel, which declares 5 g Total Sugars, including 5 g Added Sugars, per serving; the ingredient list does not assign grams to individual ingredients. For the format-level view, our gummies vs. powder comparison covers how sugar fits into the wider choice, and our serving-size explainer covers the line every sugar amount is based on.
Where Vitamized stands
Vitamized D-Mannose, Cranberry & Hibiscus Gummies declare, per 2-gummy serving: 250 mg D-mannose, 30 mg cranberry 50:1 extract (equivalent to 1,500 mg of cranberry powder) and 25 mg hibiscus 10:1 extract (equivalent to 250 mg of hibiscus powder), with Total Sugars 5 g - Includes 5 g Added Sugars - and 20 calories. Each bottle holds 60 gummies, or 30 servings, and the product is made in the USA. The full Supplement Facts and Other Ingredients are published on the product page.
